As there is less snow here in Western Finland, a huge amount of subarctic Gooses, on way to the tundra in Northern Scandinavia and Russia, are packing on the fields for a week or two. So this spring too, and the first Graylag Gooses were already here in the beginning of March when the fields were still covered with snow. After mid March come the Bean Gooses and some smaller amount of Greater White-fronted Goose. I spent some of the first warmer days by the field edge of nearby Preiviiki Fields watching as best one thousand Gooses, Whooper Swans and Cranes pasturing on the field below. As there were also some White Tailed Deers among the birds, all spread out over the field, the sight reminded a little of Serengeti in Kenya. Unforgettable days of early spring; Preiviiki fields forever! |
